Understanding the Phases of Weight Loss


How do you know when it's time to enter the phases of weight loss? What are the different phases? How do they affect your weight loss efforts? These are all great questions that deserve answers! Here are a few tips for understanding the different stages of weight loss and what effect they will have on your weight loss efforts.

During the initial stages of weight loss, or maintenance, you will experience the greatest effect on your weight loss efforts by cutting calories. In most cases, the largest decline you will experience is in the initial stage of weight loss. This initial stage may last from 1-2 months. During this time, you will need to severely limit your caloric intake to keep yourself from gaining back any weight you may have previously lost. While you will lose most of the weight at this point, you will not be dropping enough calories to maintain weight loss and should concentrate on increasing your physical exercise level.

As your body enters into the second phase of your weight loss journey, your caloric intake will need to increase to maintain your weight loss. The second phase is also known as the plateau stage. In this stage you will experience a slow but steady decrease in your daily calorie intake. It is important to note that while you will experience a decrease in calories throughout this stage, it will not be enough to quickly return to your previous weight.

Once you have lost the desired amount of weight through diet and exercise, it is time to move on to the third and final stage of losing weight. This stage is known as the maintenance stage. While you will still need to restrict your caloric intake to maintain your weight loss, it will not be nearly as drastic as the first two stages. During this stage you will be allowed to eat foods that are healthy for you but will still allow you to occasionally eat meals. This will ensure that you do not become bored with your diet and get complacent about the program.

While your body is in the maintenance phase, it is important to make sure that you are still getting plenty of exercise. During this time you will notice that your energy levels have slowly ebbed. At this point you may feel like you can barely move. This is perfectly normal and there is no reason to fret. With a little bit of perseverance, you will soon find that your metabolism has begun to speed up and that you have more energy than you did before.

Moving forward, once your body has begun to speed up you will notice that your appetite has also began to diminish. At this point, most dieters will find that they have fewer cravings and would not be hungry as often as they used to. Another benefit of eating less frequently is that you will lose weight. Losing weight at this stage is quite easy, since you are just burning calories at a much higher rate. Since you are eating fewer calories, you will soon start to shed the weight that you have been losing.

One of the hardest stages of dieting is the rapid weight gain phase. The rapid weight loss will have many people believing that the diet that they are on is not working. The reason for this is that while many people lose the amount of weight they are trying to lose during the initial phases of the diet, they often gain back most if not all of the weight after reaching the phase where the dieters continue to eat healthily. Because most dieters get right back into their old bad habits, they usually have to go back on the diet in a matter of months or even years.

These are three of the most common phases of weight loss but they are just the tip of the iceberg. There are many other phases of the diet such as the slow fat burning stage, where the dieter is allowed to slowly increase the amount of carbs they take in during the day and also the phase where you allow your body to adapt to the ketones and begin to burn them for fuel. As you can see, there are many variations to this and so it is important to understand the different phases of keto dieting. If you go on any type of diet and are not able to stick with it for the entire term, then it is likely that you are not going through the right phase.
