5 Stages of Weight Loss

You may find that the stages of weight loss are very easy to spot. In fact, there is not really a stage in which you cannot lose weight. Here are 4 stages of losing weight.

phases of weight loss

The first stage of losing weight is when you first begin trimming your calories and eating smaller meals. Typically, the largest weight gain you will experience is in the initial stage of weight reduction. This initial stage can last from up to 1-2 months. During this time, it is important to maintain normal calorie intake and do not over indulge in food that is high in calories. When this weight gain slows down, you will then be ready to add a small amount of exercise to your routine.

Once you reach your goal weight, it is important to maintain your new body weight per week. If you go on a diet and then stop, you are setting yourself up for failure. You need to continue to diet and exercise to maintain body weight per week. If you go on a quick weight loss diet and then stop, you will not only put yourself back at your old weight, but you may end up with gaining all the weight back as soon as you start dieting again. The same rule applies to rapid weight loss diets.

When you reach the second stage of weight reduction, your goal is to reduce your daily calorie intake by up to 100 calories a day. At this point in your diet and exercise program, you are getting into the aerobic stage of your program. You will need to increase your daily calorie expenditure by at least 20% a day to maintain body weight per week. Your exercise routine should include cardiovascular exercises and strength training to help burn calories and fat quickly.

During the third and fourth stages of weight loss, you are ready to set your goal weight. You now have achieved your aerobic and strength training goals, and your daily calorie expenditure has been increased to at least 20% a day. You may have also worked on your body weight and body fat percentage. You now want to achieve a body weight that is close to your desired point and continue to lose it slowly, as you are completing your diet and exercise program.

As your fifth and final stage of your weight loss journey, you are excited to see your numbers drop off. At this point, you have reached your desired point weight and body fat percentage and you are happy with your progress. You have achieved the ultimate fitness goal, and you are proud of yourself. If you are motivated to continue your weight loss program, you can even feel your success build as your confidence grows.

For many people, these are the final phases of the diet and the weight-loss process. If you have achieved your goals and are happy with your body and health, you will begin the maintenance phase. This will be an adjustment period for many people: maintaining your new diet, eating healthier and choosing lower calorie meals and snacks during the day, while working to reduce your weight, are all daily hurdles you will have to overcome.
